Central New York has a new millionaire.
Albert Totari of Camillus picked up a $1 million check from the New York State lottery in downtown Syracuse on Thursday.
Totari, 28, bought the winning Powerball ticket at C & C Market on North Salina Street in Syracuse last month. Totari bought the ticket on a Friday and says he spent two sleepless nights waiting to turn the winning ticket in.
"You have got to make sure nothing happens to the ticket. I kept it with my mom and she hid it for me. I kept checking up with her to make sure she didn't lose it," says Totari.
He chose to take his winnings in a lump sum totaling $661,800. He says he plans to use some of the money from his winnings to buy a new house for his family. Totari also says he plans to continue playing the lottery.
