Today is the last day of business for an area post office.
The post office at Carousel Center will shut its doors at the end of the day. Postal officials tell CNY Central they were unable to reach an agreement with the mall during lease negotiations over the past year.
The Carousel Center location is home to 155 mall tenants with post office boxes and 200 others who rent post office boxes there. They will now be moved to the Franklin Square Station on West Division Street, which is down the street from the mall.
The closure comes as the postal service lost more than $8 billion last year.
The Postal Service location has been at the mall since it opened in October 1990.
This isn't the first post office closing we've seen lately. In January, the Elmwood location on South Avenue in Syracuse shut its doors for good.
We also saw the post office on Main Street in North Syracuse shut down in January as well.
