Central New York man dies after being hit by garbage truck he was operating

Authorities say a central New York man has died after being run over by the garbage truck he was operating.

Utica police tell local media outlets that 28-year-old William Pope of Blossvale was trying to get back into the truck because he'd mistakenly left it in gear when he fell and it rolled onto him.

They say the accident happened just after midnight Monday at a landfill in the city.

Pope died at a local hospital. He was working for Bliss Environmental Services of Rome.
