Police say a 70-year-old man has died after he was run over by a tractor while working at his central New York farm.
Authorities say an employee at Alfred Vilardi's farm called emergency dispatchers in Otsego County around noon Wednesday to report that Vilardi was pinned under a piece of farm equipment at his property in the town of Unadilla, 65 miles southeast of Syracuse.
Emergency crews found Vilardi underneath mowing machinery attached to the tractor. Officials say he had been dragged about 30 feet before the tractor hit a building.
He was declared dead at the scene.
Sheriff's deputies say Vilardi apparently was working on the tractor and attempted to get off the vehicle while it was running and still in gear. Deputies say the tractor lurched forward, knocking him off. The tractor and attachment then ran over Vilardi.
