Children seen poking rabid bat in Dryden

Tompkins County health officials are investigating a rabid bat found by children.

The bat was found Monday afternoon at Montgomery Park along Elm Street in the Village of Dryden.

Three young children were seen poking the downed bat with sticks in the tree line at the park.

If anyone has had contact with the bat, contact the Tompkins County Health Department at (607) 274-6688. You may have been exposed to rabies, which is a very serious and deadly disease.

Last month, a rabid bat was found in the Town of Onondaga.
