Clothing, food drive set for Monday morning

Volunteers box up donations to distribute to the area's needy. Dropoffs are accepted Monday 8am - noon at the Teamsters on Syracuse's Spencer Street.

It's a Martin Luther King, Jr. Day tradition for the Syracuse area: for 14 years, area organized labor and the United Way have run a clothes and food donation.

On Monday, the Teamsters Hall will once again take dropoff donations from , and volunteers will box up winter coats and boots, plus non perishable food, and drive it to agencies and groups around Onondaga County.

Helen Hudson, long-time liaison between the Labor Council and the United Way, says the program keeps growing because the needs here keep growing. She says the outreach effort also offers small appliances and baby needs to people who are trying to re-establish themselves.

Donations are welcome, but only from 8am to noon, at the Syracuse Teamsters Hall, 566 Spencer Street (near the inner harbor).
