CNY SPCA to help prevent animal cruelty in Oneida County

The CNY SPCA will now help prevent animal cruelty in Oneida County.

Oneida County Executive Anthony J. Picente Jr. says starting April 1, the CNY SPCA will handle all animal cruelty investigations in Oneida County.

The announcement of the one year, $102,000 contract comes after several high profile animal abuse cases in Oneida County, including the discovery of a pit bull named Apollo, who was found emaciated and chained up in below-zero temperatures in January of 2011.

The CNY SPCA currently handles all animal cruelty investigations for Onondaga and parts of Oswego Counties. CNY SPCA Executive Director Paul Morgan says: â??They currently have five cruelty investigators on staff and sill hire more if needed to cover Oneida County.â??

The contract agreement will be voted on at the Oneida County Board of Legislators meeting on March 12.
