This Saturday, Central New Yorkers will once again have the opportunity to get rid of electronic waste, free of charge, at the CNYCentral Recycling Day event at Destiny USA. From 8:30 am through 1 pm, people can drive to the Solar Street parking lots and drop off any unwanted electronics without having to get out of their cars.
Ken Johnson of Maven Technologies, explains. "And it's as simple as finding the parking lot, we have people to direct you around. We have volunteers and staff ready to accept donations and ready to unload your cars, and then you simply drive away. And go about your day."
The monetary donations that Ken refers to will help the Fort Drum mother, Jenna Hinman, whoâ??s battling a reare, life-threatening cancer.
So, just who can participate in the drop off this Saturday?
"This event is really specifically geared towards residents, and maybe small businesses that have small quantities they can fit in a pickup truck, or maybe a van and they can drop it off."
So, why even bother with an e-waste drop off? Why not just throw it in the regular trash? Mike Vancamp of Metallico explains. "Because there's components in there that shouldn't go through the waste stream, and can be recycled and reused properly. Like televisions, for instance. I mean you've got all the glass, all the plastic. All that can be recycled. You know? Why throw it in the waste stream."
So you can help keep e-waste out of the waste stream, and free up some space at home during your spring cleaning. Further details on what is, and what is not accepted at this drop off can be found here.
