The Jets will return to SUNY Cortland's campus in exactly one month.
The 2013 training camp for the New York Jets starts Friday, July 26. The players will report to campus the day before, Thursday July 25.
Tens of thousands of fans are expected to descend on SUNY Cortland's campus to watch the players prepare for the season, and there are a few new procedural changes to take note of.
First, fans will be subject to bag searches for the first time since the Jets have taken to the Cortland fields.
Also, tickets, while still free, will need to be printed from the Jets web site prior to arriving at the fields.
This camp, though the fourth under five-year head coach Rex Ryan, is the first camp for John Idzik, the Jets' new General Manager.
In a press release, Idzik said he looks forward to the three weeks his team will spend in Cortland.
"My visit earlier this spring only served to confirm what staff members and coaches told me prior to my visit. The facilities and fields are top notch and the people are very warm and hospitable," he says. The environment provides an excellent setting for training camp as we continue our preparations for the upcoming season."
Erik Bitterbaum, the President of SUNY Cortland is also excited. Last year, the training camp generated more than $5.5 million for the Cortland County economy.
SUNY Cortland's partnership with the Jets yields year-round benefits for current students and alumni.
"Our partnership continues to open new and exciting opportunities for our students, our alumni and our community," Bitterbaum says. "We are incredibly proud that our campus and staff are able to provide the kind of top-quality, professional experience this elite athletic organization requires."
Camp visitors are encouraged to use SUNY Cortland's Stratton Drive entrance, from Route 281. There is a $5 parking fee. After each practice, the players are usually available to sign autographs for fans on the sidelines if weather, time and other circumstances allow.
The Jets caution all fans to check the weather forecast because practices may be cancelled or closed to the public in the event of inclement weather.
