Common councilor will help elect Obama

Monday, the Electoral College is set to formally elect Barack Obama President of the United States. Electors will meet in every state across the country in a largely ceremonial procedure.
L ocally, Syracuse Common Council President Bea Gonzalez was selected by the State Democratic Committee to be part of the Electoral College. On Monday she and the rest of New York's electors will head to Albany to cast their ballots for President-Elect Barack Obama and Vice President-Elect Joe Biden.
I t's part of the process that certifies the election ahead of next month's inauguration. "I get to be a constitutional officer of the United States as an elector, so I'm enjoying it. I'm enjoying my responsibility as a citizen in this process,"says Gonzalez.
