Cornell University wrestler accused of raping woman while she slept in Ithaca

A 22-year-old Cornell University wrestler has been charged after a woman said she woke up to find him raping her Saturday night. The woman's partner later took a photo that led to his arrest on Tuesday.

Ithaca Police, in conjunction with the Cornell University Police Department, say they arrested Peter J. Mesko of Honesdale, Pennsylvania, in connection with the rape. for allegedly raping a woman Saturday night.

Ithaca Journal reports

that court papers say the women were sleeping early Saturday when one awoke to find a stranger on top of her. The women fought him off and ran upstairs.

Ithaca Police say the woman told police that an unknown person entered her bedroom and engaged in sexual intercourse with her without her knowledge or consent. The woman said she was soundly sleeping at the time.

Investigators say the victim's partner went back to the bedroom and took two pictures of the man lying on the bed, which the women used to identify Mesko by looking him up on the athletic department's website.

Mesko was charged with one count of rape. He was arraigned in Ithaca City Court and remanded to the Tompkins County Jail in lieu of $5,000 cash bail or $10,000 bail bond.

Mesko is due back in Ithaca City Court on Friday for additional proceedings.
