Cortland County trio tries to use counterfeit cash at an ice cream stand

Three people face charges after trying to pay with counterfeit bills at an ice cream shop in Cortland County over Memorial Day weekend.
Police say 23-year-old Rhonda Ripley of Cortland, 37-year-old Richard Small of Cortland, and 22-year-old Bronson Marshall of McGraw are all charged with possession of a forged instrument. Small and Marshall face one charge each, Ripley faces 11 counts of the same charge.
They are accused of trying to pass counterfiet $20 bills at The Little Treat Shop on Route 11 in Cortlandville last Saturday.
Investigators say Ripley had 11 fake $20 bills on her when she was booked at the County Jail.
Cortland County Sheriff's deputies were called to the Route 11 dessert shop just before 3:30, Saturday afternoon.
They caught up with the trio a short time after, arresting them on nearby Weaver Road.
The investigation continues and the Sheriff's Office says there could be more charges.
