Crash involving tractor trailer shuts down Route 48 in Granby

Crash on Route 48 in Granby

There was a crash involving multiple vehicles on Route 48 in Granby near Dann Drive early Wednesday morning between Fulton and Phoenix.

Oswego County Sheriff's deputies say a Bud Light tractor trailer and a car collided head on.

The driver of the car had to be extricated from the vehicle and was airlifted to Upstate University Hospital with unknown injuries.

As a result of the crash, a third vehicle swerved onto Dann Drive, slamming into a Sheriff's car which just happened to be there at the time.

Oswego County Undersheriff Gene Sullivan says, "The fact we had a deputy there as close as you can get, he was there to immediately help call the situation in and get emergency services to respond and then rendered what aid he could to the involved persons."

Multiple ambulances and a Mercy Flight helicopter were called to the scene. There are no reports of any other injuries.

Sullivan says, "A tremendous amount of work [is being done] right now; photographing, doing accident reconstruction work. State Route 48 south of Fulton until County Route 46 will likely be closed for a large portion of the day."

Route 48 was closed between Wilcox and Highbank Roads in both directions from about 6:30 to 11:00am.

The name of the victim has not yet been released.
