Critz Farms reports record apple crop

Critz Farms in Cazenovia promises bushels of fun, and apples, this fall season.

"This is the best apple crop I've ever had, and it's a record crop for the whole state of New York," says Matthew Critz, owner of the farm on Route 13, which is known locally as Rippleton Road.

Critz says last yearâ??s early spring frost took a toll on the apple crop, but says heâ??s noticed that when that happens, the trees usually respond by producing even more apples the following year.

Right now, Empire, Cortland, and Honeycrisp apples are ripe for picking and there are many rows to choose from in the orchard.

Critz Farms, which offers mid-to-late season apples, started picking about two weeks ago. It says apples and pumpkins will be available into October.

This weekend, the Fall Harvest Celebration continues with pumpkin and apple picking, wagon rides, cow train rides, cider pressing demonstrations, and free samples. There's also a large corn maze, an animal area, and a Kiddie Corral playground.
