As the director of Onondaga County's Childcare Solutions for 27 years, and time as a caregiver before that, Peggy Liuzzi has seen a lot of growth, and a lot of changes in daycare, most for the better.
As she retires, she tells us that daycare is still expensive, especially for families with many children. There are waiting lists for quality, lower price (subsidized) care centers.
But, she says the conversation has moved beyond just finding a slot that's safe. Liuzzi says the focus now, is integrating care with enrichments so that children benefit and grow with their hours while parents are working or away.
As Liuzzi retires, Childcare Solutions holds a retirement for her at the Philanthropy Center, (East Fayette Street at Townsend)
Wednesday evening, 5pm.
