Destiny USA cutting 44 in-house security positions, switching to national company

44 security workers at Destiny USA will be losing their jobs by April 19th. Destiny is planning to replace its own in-house security personnel with an outsourced security service. The new security company at Destiny will be Universal Protection Services.

Universal Protection already operates security throughout the other malls owned by the Pyramid Companies. The mall developer and operator filed a formal notice with the New York State Labor Department earlier this month.

"Our goal every day is to have a safer mall - having a stand alone security division is a lot more efficient.," said Destiny USA General Manager Rob Schoeneck.

Schoeneck explained the corporation made a decision about three and a half years ago to switch from in-house security to an outside company.

Destiny was not included initially, but now it will be.

Security workers at Destiny have been notified about the change. They will all be given the opportunity to apply for positions at the mall through Universal Protection. Schoeneck said at other Pyramid malls that have made the change about 75% of the current security staff ended up working for Universal Protection.

About two weeks ago retail tenants at Destiny USA were notified about the upcoming change.

In a letter to tenants Destiny USA also said it will continue its ongoing relationship with the Syracuse Police Department.
