DNA evidence leads to the arrest of a Liverpool man, linking him to a sexual assault case that's more than a decade old.

Michael Fisher, 37, was arrested Tuesday, charged with rape and criminal sexual act. Fisher is accused of having sexual contact with a 12 year old girl in 2002.

Cicero police say the victim initially came forward 13 years ago, saying she was sexually assaulted by a man she had befriended. She said it happened three separate times between June and December of 2002, but she only knew his first name.

Detectives worked to track down physical evidence, but were unsuccessful.

Then, in 2011, an unrelated request from Oswego County required Fisher to submit his DNA. The Onondaga County sheriff's office was alerted of a DNA match, and identified him as the wanted man in this case.

Fisher was arraigned in the Town of Cicero Court Tuesday, and sent to the county jail, where he's being held on $50,000 bail. Fisher is due back in court Friday, May 17.
