Dog rescued after swept into tunnel that empties into Mohawk River

Emergency crews search for dog swept away by fast-moving water in Proctor Park in Utica

A dog has been rescued from a tunnel after being swept away by fast-moving water in a Utica creek.

Officials tell local media outlets that the 2-year-old pit bull named Dutchess was playing along a creek in Proctor Park in Utica late Wednesday afternoon when she was swept into a nearly 100-foot-long tunnel that empties into the Mohawk River.

Emergency crews arrived and spotted the dog standing on a ledge about 80 feet inside the tunnel. Firefighters were able to reach Dutchess about an hour later and pull her from the tunnel. She was then reunited with her owner.
