DWI charged after Oneida Sheriff's car is rear ended

Jacob Perkins, 21, from Utica faces DWI and Failure to Move over for an Emergency Vehicle charges, after an Oneida Deputy's patrol car was rear ended Saturday morning

A scare for an Oneida County Sheriff's Deputy, whose patrol car was rear ended while he was on a traffic stop in Verona early Saturday morning.

This happened just before 1:30am, on Route 365 near the Exit 33 Thruway interchange. Deputy Aaron Avard was talking to the driver of another vehicles when his patrol car was rear ended by another car coming off the Thruway ramp. The patrol car emergency lights were on, according to deputies.

Jacob Perkins, 21, from Utica is now charged with DWI and several violations, including Breath Test Refusal and Failure to move over for an emergency vehicle. His license is suspended pending court appearance next week.

No one was hurt in the incident.
