Manlius Police have identified the teenager killed in a crash Tuesday near East Syracuse-Minoa High School.
Austin Elmore, 17, of East Syracuse was riding his bicycle north on Fremont Road just before 8 a.m. when he tried to cross Kirkville Road and was hit by a car, according to police.
Elmore was thrown off the bicycle. He was taken to Upstate University Hospital and later died.
The driver of the car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries and was later released.
Elmore would have been a senior this fall at East Syracuse-Minoa High School.
"The East Syracuse Minoa Central School District mourns the tragic loss of Austin and we extend our deepest, heartfelt sympathy to his family. Austin was a fine young man and a talented artist. Our school community is grieving at this time," said Dr. Donna DeSiato, Superintendent of the East Syracuse Minoa Central School District.
Austin received a Gold Key Award in the 2012 CNY Scholastic Art Awards for a self portrait drawing, according to the district.
Counseling services will be available to support both students and staff from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. throughout the week at the high school.
The Town of Manlius Police Department continues to investigate the crash.
