Elbridge woman killed in motorcycle training class crash

An Elbridge woman died over the weekend after she crashed a motorcycle in a parking lot where she was taking a training class with her husband.

DeWitt Police confirm 39-year-old Marianne Pitcher died in a motorcycle accident at ShoppingTown Mall around 10:00 Sunday morning. Relatives say Pitcher died after crashing during a pre-licensing motorcycle training class she was taking with her husband. They say the couple was planning to take a motorcycle vacation trip next summer.

Police say Pitcher was participating in a course presented by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation and was in the second day of the two-day course. She was operating a motorcycle provided by the organization and was wearing a full face helmet. Witnesses say she was driving slowly when the motorcycle pitched to the side, causing her to fall off and hit the pavement.

Pitcher, a manager at a fast-food restaurant, was taken to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse, where she was pronounced dead.

Police say an investigation into the cause of the accident is continuing, and will include an autopsy by the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's Office.
