There was a victory in Manlius Friday night, before the varsity football team even took the field.
The Fayetteville-Manlius High School dedicated it's brand new state-of-the-art turf field, which was paid for by private donations.
It took the better part of three years, countless hours, and getting back up after a few tackles before a team of parents raised more than 1 million dollars to revamp the field. The town voted down funding the turf with taxpayer dollars twice, that's when the parents stepped up.
"It's a great tool for our kids, the rain we had from the tropical storm would have wiped our old field out but we had game after game after game," said Kevin Hanlon who helped steer the committee to raise the funds.
" I t brought the community together because after the la st vote we were pretty fractured," said parent Mike McGee. "This is more than just a football field. The community will enjoy this for a long time."
