Father of murdered toddler charged in Syracuse shooting

Rashaad Walker Jr. was shot to death in Syracuse in November of 2010.

The father of a toddler who was killed in a gang related shooting is now charged in connection with a drive-by shooting.

Rashaad Walker Sr., 20, of 1317 Midland Avenue, has been charged with assault in the second degree and criminal possession of a weapon.

Police say the drive-by shooting happened March 20th around 2:15 p.m. at 1900 South Salina Street. Police say Walker Sr. fired several shots from the passenger side window and hit a 22-year-old man that was standing in front of the barber shop. The victim was shot in the neck. Police say the wound was not life threatening.

Walker Sr. was arrested on Saturday and arraigned Sunday morning in Syracuse City Court. He is being held in the Onondaga County Justice Center on $100,000 bail. Police say he is also suspected of being involved in several other shootings or shots fired incidents in Syracuse. Anyone with information should call 442-5222.

Walker Sr. is the father of Rashaad Walker Jr. The 20-month old was shot to death in November of 2010 while sitting in a minivan with his parents. Authorities said his father was the intended target in the gang retaliation shooting.

In March, a jury found Saquan Evans guilty of second degree murder in his death. Sentencing for Evans is April 27th.

Walker was arraigned Sunday and sent to the county jail on $100,000 bail. Police didn't know if he has a lawyer.
