Syracuse firefighters are on the scene of a fire on James Street.

The flames broke out around 3:30 p.m. at an apartment building at 477 James Street between North State Street and Townsend Street. James Street in that area was closed off to traffic.

CNYCentral has a crew on the scene and says it looks like the fire was confined to the third floor. Smoke was seen coming out of the back of the building.

The Red Cross is on the scene to help the people who are displaced to help them find a place to stay for the night. A Centro bus is keeping people warm while they are unable to get back to their apartments.

According to the Red Cross, almost everyone will be allowed back inside, with the exception of 4 people.
