Fire in Syracuse, part of porch falls on firefighter

A porch collapsed on a Syracuse firefighter as crews were getting the flames at three story building on Eastman Avenue under control Saturday.

Fire broke around 3:45 pm at the building near South Avenue. Fire Chief Mark McLees says the firefighter was able to continue working and would be evaluated later. There are six apartments in the building as well as a furniture store on the first floor.

One person living in the building was transported to the hospital for evaluation.

The chief says the fire was mostly on the back of the building and went up under the roof.

"I don't know about a total loss but it is a tremendous amount of damage." McLees said.
