The first Syracuse birth of 2014 happened at 1:23 this morning at Crouse Hospital when Kimberly Merriman gave birth to twins.
Karlie, weighing two pounds, 11 ounces and brother Kyrie, two pounds, eight ounces, are the Merriman familyâ??s second set of twins.
The pair were born premature at just 29 weeks and will spend several weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit before they can join their parents and four older siblings at home.
Karlie and Kyrie may be the first births of the new year for Crouse Hospital, but they arenâ??t the first January 1 birthday in the Merriman family. Father Kenneth now shares his birthday with his youngest children.
