Former Big East foes clash when St. John's visits Syracuse in December
A familiar foe from the old Big East basketball days will make a return trip to the Carrier Dome this season.
SU Athletics announced Monday morning that St. Johnâ??s will visit Syracuse on Saturday, December 6. This will be the second leg of a home-and-home series between the longtime foes, who signed a non-conference deal after Syracuse University left the Big East for the ACC.
The Red Storm are one of the Orangeâ??s longest rivals, with their first encounter dating back to February 8,1912. The teams met at Madison Square Garden in New York City last year, with the Orange squeaking out a 68-63 victory.
Syracuse finished last season with a 28-5 record before losing to Dayton in the NCAA Tournament round of 32. St. John's played in the NIT as part of a 20-13 season. SU leads the all-time series with the Red Storm 51-37.
The school previously announced home games with Carleton (exhibition), Adrian (exhibition), Loyola, Holy Cross, as well as two games in the 2K Sports Classic for the upcoming season.
