Four killed in Smithfield according to Madison County Sheriff's Office

According to the Madison County Sheriff's Office, 4 people are confirmed dead after a round of severe storms hit the town of Smithfield.

Family members confirm that a mother and young daughter were among the 4 victims.

Deputies say severe damage was reported along Goff Road and North Rupp Road. At least four homes were destroyed and many more damaged. Many trees and power lines have been knocked down.

The identities of the four people killed have not yet been released. The victims are being removed to the Onondaga County Medical Examiner's office. A fifth person was injured in the storm and treated at a local hospital, but has since been released.

Deputies say the towns of Sullivan and Lennox were also hit hard with multiple trees and wires down.

A news conference will be held Wednesday morning at 9 a.m. at the Smithfield Fire Department.
