Freeze out 5k looking to raise awareness of area homelessness
The Rescue Mission's Freeze Out 5K is a Friday evening race & party with a mission: to raise awareness and funding to help people who are homeless.
Gina Rapasadi, with the Rescue Mission Alliance, was our guest on Weekend Today in CNY, and says it's a family-themed event (food, music and party at OCC's SRC Arena after the outdoor run)
Glow accessories will be provided for everyone at this USATF-certified and timed 5K. Of course, feel free to bring more glow-in-the-dark bling to really light up the night! The 5k starts at 7pm, and the after-party at 7:30.
The Rescue Mission event comes, at the same time ans the annual homeless census: The Point-in-Time Count is a one-day unduplicated count of sheltered and unsheltered homeless individuals and families across the United States. The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires that each Continuum of Care (CoC) conduct a count in the last 10 days of January every year. To volunteer for the next PIT count, please contact Melissa Marrone at firstname.lastname@example.org or 315-428-2216.
