Fund started to support family of woman killed in Liverpool car crash
has been started to raise money for the family of Meagan Patterson, the woman who was killed in a car crash on Sunday afternoon. The fundraiser hoped to collect $10,000 for the Patterson family. Due to the overwhelming response, organizers have now raised the goal amount to $50,000.
The online fundraiser was organized by a childhood friend of Meagan Patterson named Michelle Crews. Crews is not a member of the Patterson family but felt compelled to help.
"We were friends when we were kids, and then when Facebook came around, that was the way that we kept in touch. I loved seeing the pictures she would post of her adorable children," Crews told CNYCentral. "I felt like I had to do something," Crews added.
The other members of the Patterson family were also injured in the crash. As of Monday, her husband Lance Patterson was in serious condition and her daughter Olivia Patterson was in critical condition. Both Sophia Patterson and Justin Root were in fair condition.
Court documents revealed the other driver in the crash was using heroin before the crash. Muhammad Baqir and his passenger were not hurt.
The fundraiser is collecting funds for the next few months to help the family pay for expenses following the tragedy.
