Family and friends will gather at St. Lucy's Church in Syracuse on Saturday to say goodbye to the four family members who died last week in the fire on Fitch Street.

45-year-old Susan Wagner, 16-year-old Michael DuBois, one-year-old Hunter DuBois and 18-year-old Korinna DuBois were killed in the fire last Thursday.

Although it is a difficult situation, St. Lucy's leaders said it has been special to see the amount of people in the community who want to help.

"There's so many people that just want to come together to help and it's really kind of a beautiful thing to see," said Pastor Jim Matthews. "I don't know the family, but I'm so pleased to be able to offer the church to them because it's in the neighborhood and also large enough to accommodate all the people that will be there."

The church, on Gifford Street, is just a mile away from where the fire happened on Fitch Street. Matthews said during Sunday's mass, they received over $1,000 in donations for the family. Schools in the area have also been calling to offer ways to assist.

The pastor said the family's reverend will be there to lead the service. It was offered at St. Lucy's because it is closer to home and can welcome a larger crowd.

Matthews said when tragedies like this happen, it's about being there for one another, no matter if you know the family or not.

“People just seem to reach out because they have experienced it for themselves and so when they’re in need, people help them so it’s a great example for all of us to see the community responding like that," he said.
