Funeral services were held for a U.S. Marine from Central New York who died from injuries suffered when his patrol was attacked by a suicide bomber in Afghanistan in January. He was critically injured in the Jan. 18 attack and moved to a military hospital in Texas, where he died April 3.
Services for 21-year-old Cpl. Christopher Bordoni were held at the Immaculate Conception Church in Ithaca. Hundreds of friends, family members, soldiers, and supporters crowded into the church and lined the streets in Ithaca to pay their respects. During the service, speakers remembered the caring person Bordoni was. His wife, Jessica, shared some of her favorite moments, including when she and her husband bought their first house.
Bordoni grew up in the Ithaca area and graduated from Ithaca High School.
Those who knew Bordoni say they were overwhelmed with the tremendous show of support and the way the community came together to honor the man they call a hero.
Bordoni was buried with military honors at Calvary Cemetery.
