'Get Your Kids' rally set for Sunday afternoon

Mary Nelson is organizing Sunday's youth rally, in response to the beating death of a Syracuse man. See her interview on what she plans

Mary Nelson does a huge back to school event every summer, but the beating attack on an older man in Syracuse's Elmwood area in September has moved her to organize a youth rally today, to try to reach young people about street violence.

The "Get Your Kids" rally comes out of an appeal by a southside woman, who, like Mary Nelson, has seen her family touched by violence.

Nelson hopes young people--and their parents--come. Besides speakers, she intends to feed them all, will refill backpacks given out last month, and has prizes and raffle drawings for young people, courtesy help from Billy Fuccillo, Junior.

We spoke with Mary Nelson on Weekend Today in Central New York on Saturday morning---take a look at the interview here, for what she hopes will come of today's event.

The 'Get Your Kids' youth rally (parents, too!) is set for Kirk Park Field House Sunday 3 - 6pm.
