Getting personal with your pets: Manlius Vet makes house calls

Central New York now has a veterinarian that's making house calls. If you want to avoid the stress of going to see the vet, Dr. John Shokoff will come to you.

Armed with his office on wheels, Shokoff owns All Pets Veterinary Home Care, which provides the only veterinary home care in the area. Despite rising gas prices, he saves money, ultimately, making it more affordable for his clients. It will cost you anywhere from $150 for vaccinations or a wellness check to $300 for surgeries.

"Having to take the car ride there, sitting in a waiting room, being exposed to other animals that may be sick or aggressive, it can be a stressful time for everybody," says Shokoff.

Another unique aspect of Shokoff's practice is he will take care of your exotic pets. Most veterinarians only take care of cats and dogs.

Shokoff says the best part of his family business is getting to know other families.

"We don't even call our clients clients, we call them family members. Because it really is like that. We go into the home. I know every one of our clients by first names, last names, their kids names and age, everything about them," says Shokoff.

For services that aren't meant to be done in the home, Shokoff has a facility where he can do surgery, hospitalizations, and x-rays.

If you would like a booklet from Shokoff entitled, "Everything a Syracuse pet owner should know" you can call (315) 400-1600 or email
