New Hartford Police say a two-year-old girl drowned on Saturday evening in the Sauquoit Creek.

The toddler apparently wandered from her parents, who were in the Washington Mills Athletic Park, about 7:10pm, and went into the water.

A relative pulled her from the water, after being swept about 1,000 feet, but first responders were not able to revive her.

The victim's identity is not being officially released yet, but New Hartford Police plan to release more on the incident later today.

Washington Mills Athletic Park remains closed on Sunday, with U6 and U8 Youth Soccer games cancelled.
