Glass falls from the Mizpah Tower and strikes car in downtown Syracuse

A piece of glass fell from the Mizpah Tower striking car in the Columbus Circle area of downtown Syracuse on Monday afternoon.

The chunk of glass hit a car and the area is surrounded by police tape.

The gothic style Mizpah Tower has been abandoned for decades.

In February, Attorney Thomas Cerio went before the Syracuse Common Council with an offer to buy Mizpah Tower on Columbus Circle for $31,000.

Cerio told CNY Central then that he intends to shore up the former First Baptist Church and turn it into a complex of office space and residential apartments.

The current owner, Syracuse Bancock LLC of Bellevue Washington, owes $115,000 in back taxes.

Last month, the Syracuse Common Council agreed to seize the Mizpah Tower for back taxes with the intent to sell it.
