Hard to imagine, but winter is around the corner which means it's time to winterize your car

Specialists at Masello's Auto recommend you begin winterizing your car now.

On this warm, autumn day, it's hard to imagine winter is right around the corner, which means now is the time to get your car prepared.

The owner of Masello's Auto, Tony Masello, says supplies can run out in the midst of the snowy season.

"When we have a severe winter they actually run out of certain sizes of snow tires. They become very hard to find. It's rare but it's happened many times," says Masello.

Even if you have all weather tires, you should bring them into a professional you trust.

"I would say half the time they're enough. If we have a severe winter they're not going to cut it and in some vehicles they're even worse," says Masello.

Carol Latour is a long time customer at Masello's Auto and is confident he will make sure her car is ready for winter.

"I trust him. I've known him since he was a teenager. He does right by me. He better," says Latour.

Professionals should also check all of your fluids like the oil and the coolant, but there are also things you can do yourself.

"Be prepared. Have a little emergency kit in your car with blankets, flares, just in case," says Masello.

Another important thing to do before you even turn on your car is check beneath your windshield wipers and make sure you remove all the snow, debris, or ice that can get caught down there

Don't let these warm days fool you.

"It's warm out but it's October. We're not that far away. South Dakota just got three and a half feet. It's coming. Cant wait till the last minute," says Latour.

Before you know it, Central New York will be covered in snow.
