High winds have power repair crews scrambling in CNY

A neighbor's tree missed this Elizabeth Street home in Skaneateles--the resident thought part of the house collapsed (damage is minimal)

Downed trees and wires, transformer problems and more are being blamed on the high winds that moved into Central New York early Sunday morning. The winds are expected to continue through the afternoon, and plummeting temperatures are also expected.

Skaneateles especially hard hit with over 2,000 power outages shortly after 8am. Most have been restored. There were also reports of a building collapse in the village, which turned out unfounded. Grace Chapel decided to cancel Sunday morning services because of the outages.

National Grid has also been busy in other parts of the Central New York, with large numbers of customers out in Jefferson, Oneida, Oswego and other parts of Onondaga County. Most are expected back on line by early Sunday afternoon.
