Homeless man arrested in animal cruelty case

According to the Cornell University Police Facebook page, on the morning of August 5, university police received a call from a maintenance worker who found three dead cats with ropes around their necks in Cascadilla gorge.

Following an investigation, police charged Mitchell Medina, 22, a homeless man, with three counts of felony aggravated cruelty to animals.

Police say Medina was arrested on Monday and is being held at the Tompkins County Public Safety Building on unrelated charges.

Medina is to appear in Ithaca City Court on October 4.
