Update: Ithaca has announced that streets throughout the Fall Creek area are starting to flood from the effects of the break-up of ice jams in Cascadilla and Fall Creeks.
Drivers should use extreme caution, and should avoid these areas if possible. People are asked to move their cars that are parked along the creek areas, or they will be towed. Parking is available at the Neighborhood Pride parking lot and in the Green and Seneca Street garages, without charge, through 8:00 a.m. Monday.
Flooding concerns on Saturday in two communities:
In Ithaca, the pedestrian bridge over the inlet is closed, as are several area streets, as a flooding residents in low-lying areas are advised to have a sump pump, and to check basements for flooding. They're being offered sandbags to protect property, available at Ithaca's DPW garage. And, they're being offered alternative free parking to move vehicles to higher ground, at Ithaca's Green and Seneca Street parking garages, starting 8pm tonight. The Neighborhood Pride Grocery lot on Hancock Street is also available. A State of Emergency remains in effect for Ithaca through Sunday.
Route 81 Southbound is closed from Adams exit 43 to the Jefferson/Oswego County Line, exit 38, because of ice dam concerns at the bridge over Sandy Creek in Ellisburg. Motorists are being detoured around on Route 11 until further notice.
