Identity of murdered SUNY Brockport student revealed

The Monroe County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that the SUNY Brockport student killed early Saturday morning is 18-year-old Alexandra Kogut of New Hartford, New York.

Officials at the SUNY Brockport say Kogut was a freshman majoring in communication.

Students at SUNY Brockport held a candlelight vigil Saturday night outside McLean Hall, where campus police discovered Alexandra's body around 2:45am Saturday morning in her dorm room.

Her boyfriend, 21-year-old Clayton Whittemore, is charged with her murder. Police tracked him down at a DeWitt rest stop and arrested him on Saturday. Whittemore is charged with second degree murder, but pled not guilty at his arraignment.

Campus officials say Alexandra suffered severe upper body trauma, and the official cause of death is blunt force trauma.

We also know Whittemore graduated from New Hartford High School, where he played hockey, and is currently enrolled at Utica College. He has a prior arrest back in 2011 in Florida for disorderly public intoxication.

Whittemore has pleaded not guilty to the charge and is being held without bail in the Monroe County Jail.
