A 50-mile section of Interstate 81 north of Syracuse has been closed again as lake-effect storms continue to cause treacherous driving conditions.
The state Department of Transportation says the highway closed Wednesday morning from Brewerton, just north of Syracuse, to Watertown in Jefferson County. I-81 from Watertown to the Canadian border is open again after being shut down when the weather worsened on Tuesday.
The Brewerton-to-Watertown section of the highway was closed Monday night, but a portion of that stretch had reopened Tuesday night.
Oswego County areas the highway runs through are expected to get up to another two feet of snow by Thursday.
In western New York, the Thruway has reopened after being closed since Monday. The blizzard that's winding down has dumped nearly 20 inches of snow on the region.
The Thruway Authority says Interstate 90 from Exit 46 at Rochester to Exit 61 on the Pennsylvania border opened to all traffic around 5:00 a.m. Wednesday.
