An Ithaca man suffered a broken nose and other injuries after he was attacked by another man over a $20 debt.

Ithaca police arrested 44 year-old James Terry Jr. and charged with assault and resisting arrest for two separate incidents involving the same victim.

Police say they were first contacted by the victim on January 30. Police responded to the call around 6 p.m. on West Seneca Street, but Terry had fled by the time they arrived. The victim and a witness told police they attack was over a $20 debt. The victim was taken to Cayuga Medical Center for evaluation and treatment.

On Tuesday around 5:30 p.m. the victim contacted police again to say Terry had threatened him once more in the same area as the prior attack. He also gave police Terryâ??s location and what he was seen wearing. Police say Terry was resistive and combatant during his arrest.

Police obtained medical records from the victim confirming he suffered a broken nose and multiple bruises from the attack. His eye was still swollen shut during Tuesday nightâ??s questioning.

Terry was taken to Ithaca Police Headquarters for arraignment. He is in Tompkins County Jail with bail set at $20,000.
