Ithaca Police arrest several suspects found on roofs of businesses previously burglarized

Ithaca Police are called to two different businesses within a half hour of each other to reports of suspicious persons on the roofs of the properties. There have several burglaries recently reported throughout the city of Ithaca.

Around 11:30 p.m. Friday, police were called to Firehouse Subs on S. Meadow Street for a report of people seen on the roof.

Firehouse Subs was burglarized twice within the last 10 days, on August 8th, and on August 12th.

Officers found and arrested Khaliq M. Gale, 19, of Ithaca and Gabriel G Pontes, 22, of Ithaca. Both were charged with criminal trespass. Gale is also charged with felony criminal possession of a controlled substance after police say they found narcotics and drug paraphernalia on him. Gale was arraigned Saturday morning and released on his own recognizance. Pontes was released with an appearance ticket.

Around 11:55 p.m. Friday, police were called to the Home Depot on Elmira Road for a report of people on the roof. The Home Depot was burglarized four times since March 30th.

Three suspects were caught running from the scene and two others found in a car nearby. Igor V. Sokolik, 18 of Homer, Paul Priadoun, 19, of Cortland, and a 17 year old were all arrested and charged with criminal trespass.

They were all issued appearance tickets.

Investigating officers say they did not find any evidence that either business had been broken into and nothing to date has been reported stolen in connection with the incidents.

No charges have been filed and no suspects have been named in the previously reported burglaries.

Anyone with any information about these incidents is asked to contact the Ithaca Police Investigations Division.
