"Jersey Boys" opens at landmark with a bang

The Landmark Theater recently expanded its facility, making it possible to host much larger events.

One such event is kicking off tonight in truly dramatic fashion. â??Jersey Boysâ?? debuts as the first major, Broadway-style production hosted at the Landmark since it was built in 1928. The

$16 million renovation

was completed last November, with this being the biggest production taken on in the updated facility.

The show has spent the last two day unloading truck-loads of lights, costumes and other equipment needed for the massive production.

Executive Director Denise DiRienzo told CNY Centralâ??s Alex Dunbar, "Itâ??s a whole new venue. We have a stage now; we have a true performing arts stage. We're able to fit a lot more on that stage."

The cast and crew of the show love how the Landmark retained the original beauty, while adding revolutionary new scenes spaces.

Production Stage Manager Molly Meg Legal said: "A place like this, we walked in - we had all the space we needed. We didn't have to backload trucks. That's a really big help. It saved us hours of time and it makes all of us feel comfortable for the few weeks we're going to be here."

The show will run from October 9-28 at the Landmark Theater. Tickets are available at the Landmark Theater box office Monday through Friday 10am-5pm, or at Ticketmasterâ??s website.
