Joanie Mahoney delivers State of the County Address

Joanie Mahoney

Onondaga County Executive

Joanie Mahoney

delivered her the State of the County Address Tuesday evening at

Le Moyne College

in Syracuse.

Mahoney celebrated several accomplishments within the county, from having a better credit rating in 2012 than four years ago, to the new agreement keeping the Syracuse Chiefs at Alliance Bank Stadium, and the multiple recognitions the County has received for green initatives.

Mahoney did announce during her speech that Jazz Fest is moving to a new spot this summer. The annual festival will be held at Jamesville Beach instead of Onondaga Community College.

The County Executive says Onondaga County is working with surrounding counties on 911 operations. Mahoney says it makes sense for counties to look for parntership possiblities. She says the example set by the merger of Skaneateles and Onondaga County's operations shows that it can be a smooth process.

Mahoney did announce a few new programs, including the Sustainability Pays initative. It would focus on making smart decisions about growth. Mahoney says we can't accept sprawl without population growth, because it leaves some areas vacant while other areas see more population.

Mahoney ended her address by wishing the Syracuse University basketball team good luck in the Big East and NCAA tournaments.
