Owner, Shannon Sobus with 5-year-old daughter is demanding justice for dog, Tucker.

When a pet dies, it's like losing a member of the family. The Sobus family is grieving following the death of their family dog this past weekend in rural Jordan.

'It's hard. It's really hard to deal with this and try to keep my composure in front of my daughter, " said the dog's owner, Shannon Sobus.

Shannon Sobus' dog Tucker died in her arms Saturday after the dog ran next door and was shot by her neighbor.

"He fell

nd I ran to him with the baby in my arms.

e looked up at me and you could tell he was laboring to breathe" said Sobus.

The incident happened in front of her 5-year-old daughter who was playing in the front yard.

The neighbors said the dog was threatening their 10-year-old cat in front of their grandchildren, and they had no option but to shoot.

The State Department of Environmental Conservation said Susan Leach

, 70,

was charged with discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a residence. The Onondaga County Sheriff's Department assisted on the scene. No report has been released.

Tucker's family said the charge did not fit the crime.
