Judges rules Syracuse Republicans can have a ballot line for Syracuse mayor

A judge has ruled that Syracuse Republicans can have a ballot line for mayor in the general election.

State Supreme Court Justice Hugh A. Gilbert rejected a Democratic challenge to the line on technical grounds on Wednesday . The merits of the case were never argued.

Democrats in a lawsuit claimed that the Onondaga County Republican Committee was improperly stretching the deadline for choosing a candidate for the Nov. 5 election. The party has used the names of two candidates who do not really intend to run against Mayor Stephanie Miner.

Miner won the Democratic Primary Tuesday.
