Knife-wielding Utica woman tased after allegedly threatening police

A knife-wielding Utica woman was tased after threatening police who responded to reports that she was out of control.

Utica Police say they were called to the 1400 block of Genesee Street for a report of an out of control person around 4:00 p.m. Saturday.

Witnesses at the scene told police that 47-year-old Dawn Kenney-Brown was armed with a knife and making threats.

Police say Kenney-Brown then exited her apartment and was seen holding a large kitchen knife. Police instructed her to drop the knife, but she refused.

Kenney-Brown moved toward a person in the hallway, and an officer was then able to distract her and prevent her from hurting the person.

Police say she then turned toward the officer in a threatening manner.

The officer deployed his taser, which caused the Kenney-Brown to drop the knife. Police were then able to arrest her.

Police say that in the process, they discovered that she was in possession of cocaine.

Kenney-Brown was charged with felony menacing a police officer, felony criminal possession of a weapon, felony criminal possession of a controlled substance, misdemeanor criminal possession of a controlled substance, and misdemeanor resisting arrest.
