Level three sex offender arrested for trying to climb into woman's window and rape her

      Ross Sanford

Syracuse Police arrested a convicted level three sex offender Saturday morning for allegedly trying to climb into his 21-year-old female neighbor's apartment and rape her.

Ross Sanford, 43, of 710 Hickory Street in Syracuse, is accused of placing a ladder next to the bedroom window of the woman around 6:00 a.m., pulling the screen off the window and taking his clothes off. He then allegedly entered the woman's bedroom and climbed on top of her while she was sleeping and tried to rape her. Police say Sanford put a towel over the woman's mouth and face to prevent her from screaming, but the woman was able to fight him off, and Sanford fled the apartment.

The woman says she recognized Sanford as a neighbor, and immediately called 911. Syracuse Police officers then went to Sanford's apartment and took him into custody, arresting him for first degree burglary, first degree assault, first degree attempted rape, and first degree unlawful imprisonment.
